Adding widgets
The app comes with four widgets: What's My Age (your age), What's Their Age (someone else's age), Birthday Countdown (days until the next birthday), and Family Ages (everyone at a glance, Pro). Add at least one person in the app first so the widgets have someone to show.
Home Screen
- Touch and hold an empty area of your Home Screen until the apps jiggle.
- Tap Edit in the top-left corner, then Add Widget. (On iOS 17, tap the + button instead.)
- Search for What's My Age and tap it.
- Swipe to choose a widget and a size, then tap Add Widget.
- Pick who the widget shows. To change it later, touch and hold the widget and tap Edit Widget.
- Tap Done.
Lock Screen
- Touch and hold your Lock Screen, then tap Customize.
- Tap Lock Screen, then tap the widget area below the time.
- Scroll to What's My Age Again and tap it.
- Tap a widget to add it, then tap the widget on the Lock Screen to pick who it shows.
- Tap Done in the top-right corner.
Widgets refresh on their own every day. If a widget looks out of date, open the app once; iOS sometimes delays widget updates to save battery.
Pro
Pro is a one-time purchase. There is no subscription. It unlocks:
- 12 more themes and number fonts
- Groups like Family and Friends to filter the list and widgets
- The Family Ages widget
- Custom widget colors and birth dates
To buy it, tap the … button in the top-right corner of the app and choose Get Pro.
Restore Purchases
If you bought Pro before, got a new device, or paid for an earlier tip or upgrade in an older version of the app, you can bring it back for free:
- Tap the … button in the top-right corner of the app, then Settings.
- Tap Restore Purchases.
Make sure you are signed in to the same Apple Account you used for the original purchase. If Pro still does not unlock, email me and include roughly when you bought it.
Groups
Groups (Pro) let you sort people into sets like Family, Friends, or Coworkers.
- Add someone to a group: open a person and pick a group. Type a new name to create a group.
- Filter the list: tap a group chip at the top of the main screen. All shows everyone.
- Widgets: the Family Ages widget can be limited to one group. Touch and hold the widget, tap Edit Widget, and pick the group.
Import from Contacts
- Tap the … button in the top-right corner of the app.
- Choose Import from Contacts.
- iOS shows its contact picker. Only contacts with a birthday set in Contacts can be picked; the rest are grayed out.
- Pick the people you want and tap Done.
The app receives only the contacts you pick, and only their name and birthday. If a contact has no birth year, the app shows a birthday countdown for them; edit the person in the app to add the year.
Imported names and birthdays are copied into the app on your device. They are not sent anywhere, and the app does not change your contacts.
iPhone Duo
What's My Age Again is made for iPhone Duo:
- Open wide: the layout spreads out like iPad, with the list, the next birthday, and a year timeline of birthdays side by side.
- Stand it up: fold the phone partway and stand it on a table to turn it into a birthday board, with the next birthday on one side and a person's age on the other. Swipe to move between people.
Widgets work the same way on iPhone Duo as on any other iPhone.
